Kathleen Pierce-Gilmore, Visa’s global head of Issuing Solutions, understands this predicament all too well. “We’ve all felt that moment of panic while on vacation––the loss of a card and the feeling of being stranded,” she says. “Our new digital emergency card solution addresses these very issues. It offers instant, secure access to funds for travelers, while enabling issuers to deliver superior customer service.”

The goal is to help travelers enjoy hassle-free trips by alleviating the stress of losing a credit card while away from home. With this service, cardholders can get near instant relief if they lose their Visa credit card. Once a card is reported lost, a digital replacement will be sent via text or email. This new card can then be authenticated and added to a digital wallet in minutes.

According to the Visa Global Travel Intentions Study (2023), 74% of U.S. travelers now use digital wallets on their trips. Visa’s new service will likely boost customer satisfaction, as trust is established when a company focuses on services that genuinely benefit its customers. “It’s a win-win, demonstrating the power of digital payments to improve experiences for everyone,” says Pierce-Gilmore.
